Calvary Christian School views all students as uniquely-made images of God. We hold true to the scripture in Ephesians 4:11-13, which states: “The gifts he gave were that some would be prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ.” The Eagle Academy exists to serve students who seek to glorify God through their gifts and talents.
The Eagle Academy is a pull-out program that assists students from first through sixth grades by partnering with classroom teachers to supplement classroom instruction. Through consistent collaboration, the Eagle Academy teacher aligns instruction with language arts lessons being taught in the classroom. In addition, the EA teacher provides assistance with assignments, projects, and tests. Active reading strategies and phonics instruction are explicitly taught and reinforced throughout the sessions. Additionally, students benefit from a multisensory approach to learning. Up to five students may be enrolled in the Eagle Academy per grade level. The Eagle Academy costs $185.00 dollars per month, which provides three, 40 minute classes per week.
The Eagle Academy is headed by Mrs. Leah Hess who has 11 years of teaching experience in public, Christian, and home-school settings. She holds a B.Ed. with minors in reading and Spanish from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and is currently pursuing her Educational Therapy credential. Mrs. Hess has taught first, third, and fifth grades, mathematics and coached lacrosse at the high school level. She brings her life experiences and practical teaching strategies to the Eagle Academy classroom, which enables her to honor God and serve the students with whom she teaches. She is happily married to her husband, Josh, and together they have three amazing teenagers.
